One of the unavoidable facts about health in the 21st century is the high prevalence of chronic disease, the management of which depends to a large extent on long-term pharmacological therapies. It is estimated that more than 60% of the population aged over 50 uses medication on a daily basis. At the same time, there is growing concern about quality of life, an area in which regular physical exercise plays a key role.

In this context, a central question arises: how do the different chronic pathologies and their respective pharmacological therapies condition the physiological responses to exercise and influence its safe and effective prescription?

The aim of this course is to transfer knowledge and skills from different medical specialties to the context of physical exercise, enabling sports science professionals, doctors and physiotherapists to understand the effects of the most commonly prescribed drugs on exercise physiology. The diversity of specialists involved in teaching gives the course a complementary and integrated approach, centered on sharing clinical knowledge relevant to exercise practice.

The training focuses on the principles of safety, efficacy and clinical appropriateness, enabling participants to introduce, prescribe and monitor physical exercise in people on medication, in the context of different pathological conditions, respecting the limits, risks and particularities inherent in each clinical situation.

This integrated approach aims to promote informed, responsible and evidence-based practice, fostering collaboration between areas and the quality of intervention in different health, exercise and rehabilitation contexts.
